How long does it take to get a dental implant?
Dental implants are the healthiest, most stable tooth replacement available today. However, getting an implant isn’t quite as simple as walking into our Columbus, MO dental office and walking out with a new tooth!
The process of getting a dental implant—from start to finish—usually takes anywhere from six to eight months.
First, the implant is placed surgically in your jawbone in a procedure that takes about an hour. The next step is the healing process, which requires your patience. During this time, your dental implant is fusing with bone and tissue that surround it and gaining the strength needed to support an artificial tooth. After healing is complete, the implant acts as an artificial tooth root, and when it is restored with a dental crown or denture, it mimics the form, function, and appearance of a natural tooth.
If you need a tooth extracted, it’s possible in some cases to place a dental implant the same day. However, most patients will need to wait three to four months for the extraction site to heal before we can place the dental implant.
